Storm of Ascendance
Arkos and Amrath Stonebuckle
The Stonebuckle twin brothers were born under a full moon in the deep roots of mountain within a dwarven fortress city, the twins were identical for every physical aspect except that the older brother was born with a malformed left arm. The Twins were named Arkos and Amrath Stonebuckle. The twins shared an odd trait where they could sense the direction of each other at all times if they concentrated hard enough. The Stonebuckle clan resides in an old and proud hall founded by the first Stonebuckle, which is part of the strong fortress trade city. It is in this hall that the two twins start their story, the twin brothers were near inseparable as young dwarflings. It was a rare sight to ever see them apart; the twins grew up in the city and grew up well. Even with his crippled arm Arkos grew to be strong, capable, and most of all cunning and intelligent. It was at a young age that he was specially selected to go and train with the Stonebuckle Clan Keepers who taught him the history of the clan and many of the arcane teachings that have been passed down through the generations. The younger brother Amrath grew powerful of body and fierce of heart, and he was sent to the warriors and stalwart defenders of the clan for his upbringing and tutorage. Years passed and the brothers grew up in the fortress city, Arkos devoured knowledge and anything to do with the arcane; constantly searching for tomes and scrolls to read, new stories to learn and always hungry for more. Amrath took a different path he fought and brawled much of his youth, he trained under Stonebuckle warriors and served with the city guard when he was old enough. He settled many drunken brawls; he served on the walls, and patrolled the tunnels. Both brothers thrived under their tutors and trainers, while they pursued different paths they were respected for their ambition and passion; one brother for knowledge and magic and the other for strength and fighting. Even with their different interests and training the twins were very close and spent much time together, it was not uncommon to see Amrath following Arkos as he scoured the library tomes or to see Arkos standing by Amrths’ side as he waded into a brawl to bring it to a swift end. As time passed they grew more experienced and powerful both rising through the ranks, many speculated that in due time Arkos would rise to become the clans knowledge keeper and Amrath either a guard captain or a clan honor guard. The twins still remained very close, years passed and the brothers trained and worked in their mountain home. For a few long months Amrath could tell something was bothering Arkos but whenever he asked him he refused to say anything on the matter. Then one night Arkos left the city, in the morning a letter was found. It explained that he left to go and search for the lost waraxe of the First Stonebuckle. Arkos claimed that he would find and restore the axe to its rightful home with the clan. He said if he had not returned in three years’ time then to assume the worst had occurred. The years passed and Amrath wondered and worried what and where his brother was, he could still feel his presence but it was fainter now than ever before in his life. After three years and a day Arkos did not return. Amrath went before the elders of his clan and asked to go out and find his twin and to return with him, after discussion and knowing only Amrath alone could find his brother they agreed. Amrath left the next day to search for Arkos; he left his city and his home traveling with a trade caravan making head way in the vague direction of his twin brother.
